Tras varios años sin realizar ningún tipo de entrevista, estamos de vuelta en esta sección con uno de los artistas más aclamados durante los dos últimos años. Tras un crecimiento exponencial desde el año 2023, damos la bienvenida a uno de los actuales miembros del sello Acid Reign: TOZA. Sus inicios en Australia, aquellos tracks que le catapultaron a la fama, su aterrizaje en Europa y su regreso a Australia como anthem-maker de Midnight Mafia y como un artista ya consagrado en la escena.

1. Pregunta obligatoria en cada entrevista. Recuerdo conocerte en persona en Qlimax 2023. Si no me equivoco, era tu primer o uno de tus primeros shows en Europa en un evento llamada ‘Darkside’. Echando la vista atrás ¿Cómo fueron los inicios de TOZA?

The standard question in every interview. I remember meeting you in person at Qlimax 2023. If I’m not mistaken, it was your first or one of your first shows in Europe at an event called ‘Darkside’. Looking back, what were TOZA’s early days like.

En primer lugar, esa fue mi primera actuación contratada en Europa. Fue algo realmente especial. Primero me anunciaron como artista sorpresa y, más adelante, se anunció oficialmente que iba a actuar. Estaba un poco nervioso, obviamente, porque iba a Europa por primera vez para hacer mi primera actuación allí. Fue increíble porque, por aquel entonces, acababa de empezar a hacer giras por Australia, viajando a otras ciudades fuera de Sídney. Poco a poco empecé a encabezar algunos eventos y comencé a ver mi cara en los flyers.

Fue entonces cuando supe que era un momento realmente especial y que quería llevarlo hasta Europa, tocar música nueva, viajar con un grupo de amigos… y qué mejor manera de aprovechar el viaje. La primera vez fuimos a Qlimax y también a Rebellion Indoor, siendo mi primera vez allí. Así que sí, fue una auténtica pasada.

First of all, that was my first European booking. It was really special. I was announced as a mystery guest first, then later on, it was announced fully. I was a bit nervous, obviously, going to Europe for the first time to play my first booking. It was amazing because at that time, I just started touring in Australia interstate, like outside of Sydney, started to slowly headline shows and I started to see my face on the flyers.

That’s when I knew it was a really special moment to just take it all the way to Europe, play new music, travel with a bunch of friends, and what better way to spend the trip. We went to Qlimax the first time, and also went to Rebellion Indoor, when that was my first time too. So yeah, it was really sick.

2. ‘WALL OF TOZA’ y, acorde a uno de tus posts más recientes, ‘Heroine’, fueron dos lanzamientos que te catapultaron al artista que eres hoy en día. Posteamos repetidas veces aquel track, que finalmente se lanzó en el álbum ‘THE SECOND DOSE’ de Rebelion. Conociendo ya la historia de ‘Heroine’ ¿Cómo se fraguó este lanzamiento?

‘WALL OF TOZA’ and, according to one of your most recent posts, ‘Heroine’, were two releases that catapulted you into the artist you are today. We posted that track repeatedly and it was finally released on Rebelion’s album ‘THE SECOND DOSE’. Now that we know the story behind ‘Heroine’, how did this release come about?

La historia de «WALL OF TOZA» fue básicamente que me lancé y hablé con los chicos de Rebelion. Les pregunté si podía hacerles un remix dos semanas antes de X-Qlusive y la respuesta que recibí fue: «Si nos gusta, nos gusta; y si no, ya sabes, no pasa nada». Así que no me esperaba esa respuesta. Pensaba que me iban a decir que no. Al final conseguimos hacer algo en dos días, les envié una primera versión y a los chicos les gustó el tema así que me dijeron que siguiera adelante. Después de tres días el tema estaba terminado. Se lo envié y les pregunté si querían cambiar algo o tenían algún comentario, pero me dijeron que no, que el tema estaba bien tal y como estaba.

Hasta ese momento, realmente no sabía si iban a ponerlo en X-Qlusive. Yo ya tenía pensado ir a X-Qlusive de todas formas, incluso antes de que tuviera lugar toda aquella conversación. Así que estar en X-Qlusive y escuchar el tema en directo por primera vez, además de que allí también se pinchó ‘Heroine’ fue realmente genial, un momento muy feliz. Aquel evento fue espectacular, mencion a los chicos. Creo que fue el último X-Qlusive que organizó Q-Dance y qué manera tan increíble de presentar su legado y de dejar todavía más marcado su nombre en la escena, teniendo en cuenta lo consolidados que ya estaban.

Últimamente también he vuelto a pinchar el tema, la versión original, principalmente porque tiene muchísima nostalgia. Creo que es uno de nuestros mejores temas y sigue funcionando en la pista de baile. Me transmite la misma alegría y felicidad que sentí cuando lo estrenamos por primera vez en enero y después lo lanzamos en noviembre de 2023. Me hace volver a mis raíces, a donde realmente empezó todo, y estoy muy contento de volver a ponerlo en mis sets últimamente.

The story of ‘WALL OF TOZA? It was basically, I shot my shot and I spoke to the Rebelion boys. I asked them if I could do a remix for them two weeks before X-Qlusive and the answer I got was ‘yes, we like it we like it, if we don’t it’s you know no hard feelings’. So I wasn’t expecting that answer, I was expecting a ‘no’ and then we ended up you know making something within two days, I sent like a draft and the boys were happy with the track and they said to continue. After three days the track was finished, I sent to them, and I asked them ‘do you want anything change or any feedback’, they said no the track is good as it is.

Until that time i really didn’t know if it was actually going to be played at XQlusive. I was already planning to go to XQlusive anyways before the whole conversation happened so being XQlusive and hearing the track live for the first time as as well as ‘Heroine’ was also played there too was really good, a happy moment. That event was phenomenal and, you know, shoutout to the boys. I think it was the last XQlusive Q-Dance had and what a way to, you know, present their legacy and kind of staple their name even more in the scene as much as they were already established.

Lately I’ve also been playing the track again, the original version, mainly because it has a lot of nostalgia. I think it’s one of our best tracks and still works on the dancefloor. It gives me the happy joy of when we first premiered it in January and then releasing it in November 2023. It brings me back to my roots of where things actually kicked off and I’m really happy to be playing it out again in my sets recently.

3. Vamos con una pregunta un tanto más personal, siguiendo la línea temporal de las anteriores. ¿Cómo de difícil es para un artista australiano residir en Europa? Recuerdo a DEEZL solicitando ayuda a través de sus redes sociales para conseguir su visa.

Let’s move on to a slightly more personal question, following the timeline of the previous ones. How difficult is it for an Australian artist to move to Europe? I remember DEEZL asking for help on social media to get his visa.

Mudarme a Europa fue un paso muy importante en mi carrera. No fue lo más fácil, pero era necesario. Al principio, cuando me mudé a Europa, fue difícil, porque conseguía unas dos actuaciones al mes y no sabía muy bien qué iba a pasar con mi carrera, ya que me había trasladado a un lugar nuevo y a un territorio completamente desconocido. Fue la mejor decisión que he tomado en mi vida.

En cuanto al tema visado, todavía estoy con el proceso de solicitud. Estoy esperando mi visado para los Países Bajos pero mientras tanto puedo seguir viajando, puedo seguir haciendo mis cosas y puedo seguir aceptando actuaciones. Sí, ahora simplemente estoy esperando, es cuestión de tener paciencia. Es un proceso muy complicado pero tengo muchas esperanzas de que al final todo salga bien. Estoy deseando conseguir mi segundo visado en los Países Bajos.

Relocating to Europe was a very important move in my career which wasn’t the easiest but it was needed and at the beginning when I first relocated to Europe it was difficult getting, you know, two bookings a month not knowing what is going on with my career because I’ve relocated somewhere new and uncharted territory. It was the best move I’ve done in my life.

As for like the visa things. I’m still going through application, I’m waiting for my visa for the Netherlands, but I can still travel, I can still do my thing, I can still get a booking. Yeah, just waiting, it’s just a waiting game now. It’s a very difficult process, but I have high hopes that it will work out in the end. I’m looking forward to having my second visa in the Netherlands.

4. Llegas a Europa y tu carrera explota. Te unes a Acid Reign en 2024, sub-label de Dirty Workz gestionado, como no, por Rebelion. ¡Incluso lanzas un remix a través de Spinnin’ Records un mes después! Posteriormente, formas parte de los festivales más grandes, además de otros grandes eventos como Reverze o Fabrik. ¿Esperabas crecer tan rápido en tan poco tiempo?

You arrive in Europe and your career takes off. Joined Acid Reign in 2024, a sub-label of Dirty Workz run, of course, by Rebelion. You even released a remix through Spinnin’ Records a month later! After that, you became part of the biggest festivals, as well as other major events like Reverze and Fabrik. Did you expect to grow so fast in such a short time?

No, tenía algunas expectativas cuando me mudé por primera vez, pero todo eso desapareció después de ver cómo estaban evolucionando las cosas. Simplemente seguí haciendo lo mío, centrándome en controlar lo que está bajo mi control y haciendo todo lo posible por mantener mi carrera, ya fuera lanzando música, dando lo mejor de mí en los eventos que tenía o trabajando en cualquier otra cosa que pudiera hacer.

Viendo cómo han acabado desarrollándose las cosas, y a la velocidad y el ritmo al que están creciendo ahora mismo, sigo estando muy agradecido. Sigo creyendo que tengo el control sobre mi propio crecimiento. Ahora mismo no siento ninguna presión, simplemente voy aprovechando lo que tengo y sacándole el máximo partido, en lugar de estar esperando que las cosas mejoren. Simplemente hago todo lo que puedo con lo que tengo en este momento.

No, I had some expectations when I first moved but that was all gone after I saw how things were progressing and I was still just doing my own thing, controlling what I can control and doing the best I can to maintain my career based on you know releasing music, doing the best at whatever shows I had and for things to go the way they did and at the speed and the rate they are growing at the moment I’m still grateful for it I still believe I’m in control of my own growth there is no pressure at the moment and I’m just rolling with whatever I have and making the most out of it rather than you know expecting things will get better I just do whatever I can do with what I have at the moment.

5. Volvamos a donde comenzó todo. Regresas a Australia el año pasado con un tour por varias ciudades, siendo meses después el artista elegido junto a MC Pez para hacer el anthem de Midnight Mafia 2026. Ser profeta en tu tierra es algo al alcance de muy pocos. ¿Sientes que eres uno de los artistas más queridos / aclamados allí?

Let’s go back to where it all started. You returned to Australia last year for a tour of several cities and a few months later you were chosen along with MC Pez to create the anthem for Midnight Mafia 2026. Being a prophet in your own land is something very few achieve. Do you feel like you’re one of the most beloved / acclaimed artists there?

No diría que soy un profeta, porque creo que sería una afirmación demasiado grande. Lo que sí siento es que soy un artista muy consolidado en Australia, y no lo digo por lo que yo pienso, sino por lo que veo y por lo que sé que tengo delante. Por ejemplo, hacer la gira del año pasado en diciembre y agotar las entradas de seis shows, reuniendo a casi 6.000 personas entre los seis eventos, ha sido un logro increíble en mi carrera. Después, hacer el himno de Midnight Mafia junto a uno de mis mejores amigos, MC Pez, fue como cerrar un círculo.

Hace 10 años, Midnight Mafia fue mi primer rave para mayores de 18 años, cuando todavía estaba en Australia y empezaba a adentrarme en este mundo de la música. Así que volver 10 años después y ser el responsable del himno de Midnight Mafia ha sido un momento de cerrar el círculo, un momento muy especial en mi carrera, y siempre estaré agradecido por ello. Estar sobre el escenario durante el show del himno fue simplemente increíble. Realmente no puedo describir lo que sentí. Espero que todo el mundo pueda experimentar este tipo de sensaciones al menos una vez en su carrera, porque es algo… increíble, simplemente increíble.

I wouldn’t say I’m a prophet because I feel like you know that’s really big statement. I do feel like I’m a very well established artist in Australia and it’s not from what I think it’s from what I see and what I know that is in front of me. Like you know, doing the tour last year in December selling out six shows you know equaling almost around 6,000 people across six shows has been a phenomenal achievement in my career. Then later on moving on to doing the anthem for Midnight Mafia with my one of my best friends MC Pez it’s something that was like a full circle moment.

10 years ago, Midnight Mafia was my first ever over 18 rave back when I was in Australia you know growing into this music. So then come back 10 years later and be responsible for the anthem has been nothing but a full circle moment a special moment in my career and i’ll forever be grateful for it. Just being on stage during the anthem show was just amazing. I can’t really describe the feeling. I hope everyone experiences these type of feelings at least once in their career because it’s something that you know, it’s amazing.

 

6. Continuando la siguente pregunta, no sé si pensarás igual que yo. Tuve la suerte de asistir a Knockout Outdoor y quedé impresionando tanto con la gente con el propio festival. La puesta en escena, la ubicación… es un sobresaliente. Puede competir, a pesar de ser un único día, con cualquier gigante del hardstyle. Incluso como comenté hace unas pocas semanas, me recuerda a Ultra porque es el lugar donde los artistas más laureados deciden retomar su carrera musical.

Following up on that, I was lucky enough to attend Knockout Outdoor and I was blown away by both the crowd and the festival itself. The production, the venue… it’s outstanding. Even though it’s a one-day event, it can hold its own against any hardstyle festival. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, it reminds me of Ultra because it’s the place where the most acclaimed artists choose to re-launch their musical careers. Do you agree with that?

Sí, por supuesto, porque Australia tiene una escena muy potente. No es tan grande como la gente pueda pensar, pero con el tamaño de escena que tenemos, le sacamos el máximo partido. Un saludo a todos y cada uno de los promotores que organizan eventos allí y que intentan dar a conocer al público nuevos artistas y todo lo demás. En cuanto a Knockout, tuvo un gran impacto en mi carrera cuando actué allí por primera vez en 2023, cuando hice mi primer live-set. Fui el segundo slot. Ese fue el momento en el que mucha gente empezó a fijarse en mi proyecto y recibí muchas solicitudes de distintas agencias para reunirme durante Knockout. Era como cuando juegas un partido de fútbol y eres un jugador amateur mientras todos esos ojeadores están buscando nuevos talentos para grandes clubes. Así es como me sentí.

Volviendo a 2023, un mes después de Knockout fue cuando tuve la oportunidad de hacer mi primer show en los Países Bajos. También tuve el privilegio de poder reunirme con varias agencias, sentarme con ellas, explicarles mi historia, mis objetivos y lo que quería conseguir. Finalmente, acabé trabajando con la agencia que sentí que encajaba mejor con mi plan y con la que me sentía como en casa. Así que sí, definitivamente Knockout tiene un gran impacto en los artistas que quieren relanzar sus carreras.

Yeah, of course, Australia has a really healthy scene. It’s not as big as people think they are, but with the size of the scene that we have, we make the most out of it. Shoutout to every single promoter that’s been holding events there and trying to educate the crowd with new artists and everything. As for Knockout, it had a big impact on my career when I first played there in 2023, when I played my first ever live set at Knockout. It was the second slot. That was like the point where a lot of eyes started to look at my act and I’ve had a lot of agency requests for meetings throughout Knockout. because it’s like when you play a football game and there’s, you know, you’re an amateur and you have all these scouts scouting for big clubs. That’s how I felt.

So taking it back to 2023, which is where I played my first Dutch show a month after Knockout, that’s when I had the chance and the privilege to be able to go to multiple agencies, have a sit down with them, explain my story, explain my goals and then eventually settling down with who I felt worked the best with my plan and where I felt at home. Definitely Knockout has a big impact on artists that want to relaunch their careers.

7. Por último, hablemos de releases. Has colaborado con gran parte de la escena en estos últimos 3 años: Rebelion, The Straikerz, The Dark Horror, Krowdexx (poco se habla del boom de ‘HARDSTYLE IS BACK’)… incluso todavía algunas pendiente por lanzar con Sickmode o Lekkerfaces. Una muestra de que te puedes adaptar a cualquier artista y que, obviamente, los artistas quieren colaborar con TOZA. ¿Hay algún artista con el que te gustaría colaborar y no lo hayas hecho todavía?

Let’s talk about releases. You’ve collaborated with a large part of the scene over the past three years: Rebelion, The Straikerz, The Dark Horror, Krowdexx (not much is said about the ‘HARDSTYLE IS BACK’ boom)… and there are even a few releases still pending with Sickmode, Lekkerfaces or Darren Styles. This shows that you can adapt to any artist and that, obviously, artists want to collaborate with TOZA. Is there any artist you’d like to collaborate with but haven’t yet?

En primer lugar, quiero dar las gracias a todos estos artistas por confiar en mi proyecto y estar dispuestos a hacer música con nosotros. Tanto mi coproductor como yo nos tomamos la calidad de la música muy, muy en serio y la consideramos una prioridad absoluta. Así que, de nuevo, un saludo y gracias a todos estos artistas. En cuanto a la música que está por venir y a la que ya hemos publicado, siempre intentamos apostar por la diversidad. Tengo unos gustos musicales muy amplios y escucho muchos géneros diferentes. Para mí, que todos estos artistas confíen en mi proyecto significa muchísimo.

De cara a futuras colaboraciones, hemos tenido una trayectoria bastante larga trabajando con muchos artistas y en muchos géneros diferentes. Quedan solo unos pocos nombres de mi lista con los que realmente me encantaría trabajar como D-Block & S-te-Fan y Sub Zero Project. Esos nombres son en este momento los más grandes en la escena hardstyle y me encantaría hacer algo con ellos en el futuro. Cuando sea el momento adecuado, por supuesto. Porque, al fin y al cabo, por mucho que sé que ellos pueden aportarme valor a mí, yo también tengo que tener algo de un valor igual o casi igual que ofrecerles a ellos a cambio. Así que todo depende de encontrar el momento adecuado, y estoy deseando poder hacerlo no solo con ellos, sino también con otros artistas con los que me encantaría colaborar.

So first of all, shout out to all these artists for trusting my project and willing to make music with us. Myself and my co-producer hold the quality of music very, very high and high regard. So again, shout out to all these artists. As for the upcoming music, the music that’s already released, we always try to push diversity. I have a very wide taste in music. I listen to multiple genres. For me, for these artists to trust my project means a lot to me.

For future collaborations, you know, we’ve had quite a long run of collaborating with many artists for many genres. There’s only a few left on my list that I really would love to, such as D-Block & S-te-Fan & Sub-Zero Project. These names that are at the moment the biggest in hardstyle and really would love to, you know, do something with them in the future. When the time is right, of course. At the end of the day, as much as I know they will provide value to me, I also have to have as equal or almost as equal value to give back to them. So it’s all about the right timing and I’m looking forward to do that with, you know, not just them, but other artists that I would love to collaborate with.

8. Por último, tras muchos logros en tu haber. ¿Qué podemos esperar de TOZA en los próximos meses del año? ¿Tienes algún objetivo en concreto?

Finally, with so many achievements under your belt, what can we expect from TOZA in the coming months? Do you have any specific goals?

Las cosas están yendo genial ahora mismo. Estoy disfrutando del camino. Durante los próximos meses, simplemente vamos a terminar el año con los shows que tenemos actualmente. Si surge algo nuevo, sería genial. Y si no, ya tenemos muchísimo trabajo por hacer. El calendario de lanzamientos está completo hasta finales de año y también para principios de 2027.

En cuanto a objetivos, me gustaría mucho trabajar en el concepto de un álbum para el año que viene, y esto lo habéis escuchado aquí primero. Ahora mismo estamos simplemente en la fase de planificación de lo que queremos hacer el año que viene. Incluso si finalmente el álbum no llega a hacerse, seguimos teniendo un plan muy bueno que probablemente nos llevará hasta finales del año que viene. Las cosas están yendo tan bien como tienen que ir en este momento, así que ¿Por qué íbamos a cambiar realmente algo?

Dicho esto, siempre estamos preparados para adaptarnos y siempre estamos dispuestos a hacer algo interesante. No nos ponemos límites y tampoco queremos sentirnos presionados por las necesidades o exigencias de la escena. Así que lo que ocurra durante los próximos meses dará forma a lo que hagamos durante el próximo año o los próximos dos años. Estoy deseando terminar la fase de planificación y tener algo que anunciar. Así que, obviamente, estad atentos, porque nosotros también estamos deseando que llegue.

Things are going great at the moment. I’m enjoying the ride. The next few months, you know, we’re just going to finish the year with whatever shows we have at the moment. If anything new comes in, it would be great. If not, we have plenty to work on already. music schedule is full until the end of the year and at the beginning of 2027.

As for goals, I really would like to work on an album concept for next year which I sang it here first. At the moment we’re just in the planning phase of what we want to do next year. Even if even so the album doesn’t happen we still have a really good plan that will take us probably until the end of next year. Things are going as good as they need to be at the moment so why should we really change anything?

Being said, we’re always ready to adapt we’re always ready to do something cool. We don’t limit ourselves and we don’t want to be pressured by the needs of the scene. So whatever happens in the next few months will shape the next year or two, so I’m looking forward to finish the planning phase and have something to announce. So obviously keep an eye out, we’re looking forward to it.
